5 Enterprise 2.0 predictions for 2013


Bill Gates once said, "We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next 10." Therefore, probably, our expectations for 2013 are exaggerated. But, perhaps, this year, something unexpected will happen and change the rules in the Enterprise-market for the next 10 years.

SharePoint 2013: Fly or Die

Next year, Microsoft will release the new version of its flagship business product SharePoint 2013, and it will be the big shift, like Windows 8 launch this year. SharePoint 2013 not only has a new interface but also the new concept: it's built with "Cloud-first" in mind. Can SharePoint become a cloud platform and will companies transfer the "glue" of their IT infrastructure to the cloud? It will be interesting to watch.

Office Full House

Meanwhile, we expect that the main Microsoft's rivals on the collaboration market (Google, IBM, Salesforce) will fill the gaps in their collaboration stacks. Salesforce will launch its "DropBox for business" - Chatterbox and maybe buy Zoho to get online editors and email. Google, maybe finally add task management and social intranet to Google Apps. And IBM maybe create simple SaaS task and project management tool. VMWare will also try to take part in this collaboration race.

Bring Your Own ...

Last year, the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) trend ruled. Executives and workers don't listen to IT admins and use their personal smartphones and tablets for business needs. In 2013, we expect the further development of this trend: workers will bring to office their favorite applications and platforms.


In response to this trend IT vendors will offer IT admins the new class of amdinistration systems. MDM (Mobile Device Management) will be replaced by ADM (Apps & Device Management). Moreover, these systems will manage not only mobile devices and apps, but also "old-school" office computers because Windows is now (by importance) on the same level as iOS and Android.

Big Data

Big Data - is the new buzzword, which covers the technologies for fast processing of large amounts of unstructured data. In the Enterprise, these technologies are primarily used for marketing. Social monitoring tools and CRM systems provide large amounts of useful information about customers, competitors, market trends. But execs and marketers can't process all this information. Big Data services will transform these large amounts of data into the visual dashboard that helps to make right decisions.
